Dr. Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijiri serves as the Director General of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) based in Morocco. He began his service as Director General of the organization upon election in 1991 and has been re-elected four times. Additionally, Altwaijiri serves as Secretary General of the Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World.
Prior to being elected to his current position at ISESCO, Altwaijiri served Deputy Director for Culture at ISESCO from 1985 to 1991. Before that he served in various capacities at King Saud University in Saudi Arabia, including Assistant Professor in the College of Education and Supervisor of the Center for Authorship, Translation and Publication.
Altwaijiri has a B.A. in English Language and History from King Saud University in Saudi Arabia as well as an M.A. in Applied Linguistics and a Ph.D. in Curriculum from the University of Oregon in the United States. He serves as a member on the Boards of Trustees at various universities and institutions around the world.
Altwaijiri also serves as the Executive Director of ‘Islam Today’, an Islamic academic journal published in Arabic, English and French, as well as the ‘Al Jamia’ Journal, published by the Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World. He is the author of numerous educational and cultural monographs, research papers and articles published in leading magazines around the world. He has lectured at many Arab, Islamic and international universities.
